Looks good. Lots of progress in a short time.
We don't just embrace insanity here.  We feel it up, french kiss it and then buy it a drink.

It's all in the kit selection.
In order to maximise my chances of finishing my first 1WGB I deliberately chose a snapper with a minimum of parts and a horizontally split fuselage plus floats with well fitting halves.  This minimised the dreaded PSR.
I have also used a single colour scheme in a quick drying medium.
I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow (Thursday - day 6) as I am attending a funeral Friday and won't be back here until Saturday afternoon at which time I may not feel like building anything.
Of course Dizzy will still finish before me...

...especially if I stuff up again.
Note to self.  Check you have picked up the Gloss Clear spray can BEFORE you start spraying and realise its the white undercoat.

So now the float and underside of the Zlin is white and not NMF.  This is, as it is a zenrat industries aircraft a deliberate ploy to prevent it being spotted (should it accidentally stray over a border) due to reflections from the shiny underside.
Or something.  I shall write some words to explain it.

Todays picture.

Good thing you didn't spray the top with the 'Gloss Clear', you'd have wiped out the canopy etc.  :o
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings

I could have kicked myself.  I grabbed the can from the table, sprayed it over the float and wing undersides and thought "this clear is clouding a bit, it's not that cold or damp oh f*** it's undercoat bugger!".

Anyhoo, I didn't finish it today.  I decided to glue the wing floats on with styrene cement (to get the strongest possible non-brittle joint) so it needs to sit while that dries.  I did glue in the interior and then glue the fuselage top half to the bottom half/wing part and touch up some paint before I glued the floats though.

Day 7

Nothing will be done now until Satyrday upon my return from Rob's funeral.  Hopefully having celebrated the life of an extraordinary car/van/truck modeller and friend I will feel motivated to finish this off nicely.

Satyrday (day 9) evening.  Back from the funeral but immediately commenced loading operations transferring 600 pre-loved pavers from a stack in the back yard to a friends trailer.  That's just over 2 ton.  She's taking them for the shed where she washes her cattle.
There is only about 1000 left in the pile now...
Anyway, that meant I did little more than remove the blu tac supporting the wing floats and then re-glue the float that broke off as I did this.
I plan to devote most of tomorrow to the bench so will finish it then.  Given the time difference I get until Monday morning here anyway...

zenrat industries penetration by external assets

Ian,

Documents supplied in the usual way by our sources within GEA Department of Border Security show clear and incontrovertible proof that the suspicions you voiced last week were not unfounded, zenrat industries has been penetrated by at least one external agent.
Until such time as aforementioned agent(s) are identified all z.i. assets are to remain within PDRV borders unless specific operational authorisation has been issued by SeStaPo Counterintelligence Directorate.  Official notification will be forthcoming but take this as a heads up and don’t stray North unless we tell you to.
I’ve attached a copy of what we got from you know who.  HWMBO made me redact it for the usual reasons but there’s enough left for you to get a pretty good idea of who the treacherous little poo-poo is.  Usual drill though – don’t tip him off, don’t move him about and don’t break his legs (that’s our job!).  Just keep it to business as usual while we do all the paperwork (you know what it’s like these days – it’s got to the stage where you can’t even pull out a fingernail without filing in forms in triplicate).

Re. Operation XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX.
Ref. XXXX/XXXXX:XX
Status Update XX/XX/XXXX

Operative codename XXXXXXXXXX has been emplaced within XXXXXX XXXXXXXXXX at XXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXXXXX.  He provided the following report (itallicised) on XX/XX/XXXX.
XXXX XX floatplane registration XXXXXX arrived XX/XX/XXXX.  Rush job with no paper trail which means its Special Circumstances.  Carried out quick and dirty flat white spray job over the metal finished undersides and floats.  Told by XXXX XXXXXX to make sure rego & zi lettering obscured.  Aircraft carried large auxiliary fuel tanks in float.  After craning back into water at XXXXhrs on XX/XX/XXXX was fuelled at slipway XX.  Piloted by XXXX XXXXXXX.  Asked him where he was going but he wouldn’t say.  Had a very tall odd looking passenger wearing unusual clothes.  Had one item of luggage – a metal suitcase which appeared to levitate emitting a drone.  Took off at XXXXhrs.  Headed XXXXX after takeoff.
Obviously codename XXXXXXXXXX is deluded regarding flying luggage but overcoating a natural metal finish with a matt colour coat tallys with what is known to be SOP to prevent detection by reflections.  The hurried nature of the work suggests the PDRV SeStaPo were having to use an aircraft that would not normally carry out a covert role.  Although the earlier provision of additional fuel capacity would suggest otherwise.
As reiterated on many previous occasions it is the policy of this committee to note the PDRV’s constant denial of the existence of any “XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXX” agency, body or organisation and to state that despite a widespread, almost religious belief in their existence amongst the civilian population on both sides of the border there is absolutely no conclusive evidence they exist other than as deliberately contrived misinformation.

The model:
Hobby Boss Zlin Z42M with floats from Hasegawa Curtiss Seagull.  Central float support is section of ARK Dewotine D520 wing.
Painted with car paint and acrylics.  Kit and home made decals.

Thanks folks.
After contemplating this for a while I decided the float support was too tall and took the razor saw to it.

Thus Zlin v1.2
