- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

ooo another interesting build I have to follow!!!

there is one query that I have to ask, the positioning of the recon camera in the nose section, it certainly takes up a lot of realestate! Was it ever planned for there with the K model?

With the normal F-111's inc FB's (I worked on C's), the LHS avionic bay was filled up with all flight control/ballistics/and Nav systems, while the RHS was the radio/radar/ECM stuff (radtech's didn't like us playing in there!  ;D ). On the F-111B most of the avionics were moving to the weapons bay which had a reduced size main tank (they didn't expect it to have the long range), the forward avionics bay was for the radar and fire control system (not 100% sure).

A recon camera would work in the nose but a lot of the avionics would have to be moved to the weapons bay and you'd have a slightly reduced main tank as well....would have been a bitch to work on in there! Plus with the M-61 fitted (on our C's) there was still a free pylon in the weapons bay, LHS, which would hold a tank for the crew to put their gear in when going away on exercise.

That aside it's a great build and I'm glad someone is building one, it's such a shame the RAF didn't get them. I think with the RAF and RAAF on board there may have been other operator who may have followed...guess we'll never know now!

Gondor

trickyrich, what I am building is taken from drawings produced by General Dynamics. There were to be three cameras in the lower section of the fight nose avionics area. These were not to replace the reconnaissance pack which was to carry far more specialised reconnaissance items.

Oh ok, one would have been the strike camera, do you know what type of cameras the other two were to be?

Plus were the TFR radar antennas to be fitted on this model, or was it meant to have a newer multi mode radar?

Wheels are on order

I decided to go for the cheaper moulded as one type of wheel rather than with separate tyres and hubs. Total came to just under £13 for three sets

Cant be. An item to be entered into a Group Build has to be started and finished within the dates that the Group Build is set to run. This F-111K would not be eligible because it has been started prior to the start of the Group Build.

Maybe there's an opening for a 'Shelf Queen' GB? The basis of the model HAS to be more than 10 years old?  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

The wheels arrived this afternoon all the way from the Ukraine. They were supposed to arrive on the 21st of December according to what I could decipher from the Ukrainian Postal Service web site when I checked the tracking number last month, however the site was in Cyrillic which I cant read :banghead:
