Great thread. Lots of interesting stuff here. I had no idea ( I don't think anyway ) about the naval variant, and I like the idea of using it twithout a warhead to salvage tanks.

I only found out after a search.......it seems like a very versatile munition........I think I have settled on a twin launcher on the inboard and a rocket pod on the outer......and the hellfires on the end.........I originally wanted to use Sea Skua on my naval Hind but a distinct shortage in my 1/72 weapon store.....bloody loads in my 1/32 as I have a few Revell Lynx and a friend gave me the weapons from his kit......

I have some Sea Skuas if you'd like them - from the Italeri NATO bombs/missiles set. Let me know. :)
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

I don't know if they'd fit on a 1/72 hind, but the early hasegawa weapons set with mavericks in also had a special triple maverick launcher as fitted to many USAF A-10's [and tested on some F-16's too] in the early 1980's within the set, iirc.

the airfix 1/72 F-16A/B kit also has them in too I think.

you are welcome to a pair of these if you want them AoO and I can get them to you at the Milton Keynes show if you are going there or other ways if not.

Right......slight change of plan re carrier platform.  By re reading the thread if I simply paint the Maverick in say, a grey body n white end and claim it as a modified SARH missile I would just need a radar on the launch platform......like a seaspray pan under a large helo like a Merlin or nose like a Lynx.....? I take it that this radar could handle a SARH Maverick.....a bigger hitter than Sea Skua.....

Depending on how well the missile is modelled, you might want to putty over any indication of the glass lens in the nose of a real Maverick: a SARH version would just have a featureless radome. Rather than using white for the radome, how about Humbrol Hu.148 Radome Tan? It's exactly that 'dirty beige' unpainted fibreglass colour that you see on many real radomes and it would tell more of a visual story than white. You might paint the front of a missile white for all sorts of reasons, but if it's fibreglass-coloured, that pretty much guarantees there's a radar device of some sort inside it.

Seaspray is also used by Italian Navy AB-212s to guide their Sistel Sea-Killer/Marte ASMs, which are also much bigger than Sea Skua, so I don't see a problem. It's not like the radar has the track the missile, it just has to illuminate the target and the missile does all the homing work. If you look at a late model Lynx, they moved the Seaspray to a ventral radome to give it a 360 deg scan and make room for a FLIR turret on the nose. This will give you a pretty keen idea of the minimum dimensions of a Seaspray pan.

Yup.......all taken on board Weaver......all appropriate panel lines would be filled in or filed down......the colours were just examples.....but I must get a tin of that Humbrol paint you suggested.......and the nose of an HMA.8 (i think....) is what I need, the Airfix kit I think......cheers

For some reason when I see the title of this thread I think of this

Totally unrelated and a massive amount of thread drift involved.
