Endzeit: freshly restored and forced to embattle
« on: April 06, 2014, 09:07:34 am »
Now the union:

Mr. P. P. rides the Porsche on the J. D.'s Peterbilt:

Surely backwards because of the rear-engine for a better balance of the weight.

Now ready:

Let's hope, the two guys will find a better place to live.

Well done, especially like the ramps, the window covers on the 911 and the cow catcher.

Yes, always back the Porche onto the ramp so if in an emergency it can drive off forwards and make a fast get away!
This looks great! Are you going to weather it up a little?

Looks awsome ! Nice work for sure...needs some dirt on it tho  I love the plow on the truck...looks like real steel ! The gas tank is a nice touch as well. Love how the Porsche looks with it's taler suspension.

I don't think the the truck will even notice the little Porsche on the back tho ! And you're going to have a tough time convincing the MTO that you did your pre-trip inspection....unless there's a quick-release mechanism on the plow !

I don' mind, Capt. Canada.

So, do I understand in the right way, the MTO does check cars, trucks and motorcycles in relation to safety?
It sounds like the german  TÜV (look at the topic "3 TÜV for road vehicles").

Yes, I can imagine...
If a private car crashes into to the tail-end of a traffic-jam because of weak brakes it's just an bad accident... but when 40 (or more) tons of truck and trailer inpacts... ouch! It will folds dozens of cars including the passengers.
So, the TÜV is also very strict with trucks (german: "Lkw" = "Lastkraftwagen") in Germany. They have to be examined every year (cars every 2nd year).

Here in the UK it's the MOT (Ministry Of Transport) test. All vehicles have it every year, but only from being three year's old. However, it's a basic safety test, not a "does it comply with every single law?" test like the TUV one. An MOT tester will fail a vehicle if it's tires are bald, but he won't fail it if the tires are non-standard and the owner doesn't have a raft of paperwork to prove that those tires have been approved for that vehicle like a TUV inspector would.

Every TÜV-engineer and every individualist are natural born enemies.
Especially the motorcyclists living in a permanent war with the TÜV.
For example: a sissy-bar must be removable at any time!

Don't get me started on TUV vs Custom Bikes: we've been fighting against EU attempts to impose TUV-style tests here for years.

One example in Germany: a company wanted to make replacement handlebars, 50cm high, for a particular model of Harley Davidson. They had to get the first set tested to death at a cost of thousands of Euros, and they passed. Then the TUV decided, without explanation or appeal, that they should be made of thicker-walled tube than the original HD bars, so they had to change the design and get them tested and approved all over again at more expense. Then the TUV decided, without explanation or appeal, that they had to make them in two heights, 50cm for bikes with one seat and 40cm for bikes with two seats, so they now had to have two jigs and get the 40cm bars tested all over again at EUR1000s... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

The result was that the bars had to sell for about EUR150 instead of the £30ish they'd cost here, and if a customer bought the 50cm bars for his single-seat bike, then got a girlfriend and added the second seat (which is a standard HD accessory), he'd have to pay up another EUR150 for the 40cm ones and get his bike TUV approved all over again.... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Funny (even for those who don't speak German!) :

Omg..., let the TÜV burn in hell!
They don't know the german words "fünfe gerade sein lassen" (keep a 5 be straight) or "ein Auge zudrücken" (shut one eye)... means: don't be so strict if it isn't rrreally neccessary.
We have a lot of words in german demonstrating the germans aren't such stiff lipped smart-alekts or militarists, the world prejudiced.
And I think, in the EU, we can overtake some foreign rules, not so strict than ours, instead of trying to give the EU our rules!

Live and let live!

Oh, I think that Werner video demonstrates that.... ;D

My uncle's an engineer and he worked in Germany for several years in the 1960s. He hasn't much time for the up-tight/militarist stereotypes, although he also hasn't much time for the idea that Germans are naturally superior engineers either.... ;) (funny how nobody rushes to correct positive stereotypes about themselves isn't it?)

And I think, in the EU, we can overtake some foreign rules, not so strict than ours, instead of trying to give the EU our rules!

The problem is that every political/administrative system, including the EU, is much better at making more and tighter rules, (which justify it's existence and budget), than it is at getting rid of rules (which might call it's purpose into question). This means that trying to persuade the beurocrats and politicians of the EU state with the strictest rules to relax them is much harder than persuading everybody else to make their's as strict. Making them all stricter can be sold to the voters as "improving standards" whereas making them less strict runs the risk that the politician who puts his name to it gets blamed if the move is seen to allow something undesirable. Neither risk-averse politicians, nor self-serving beurocrats, nor lazy journalists have any incentive to question whether "more laws" and "stricter laws" equals "better laws"..... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Trouble is that EU rules are written by beurocrats, who justify their existence by making more rules not less rules, and approved by politicians, who take the path of least resistance. It's therefore usually easier to make everybody else tighten up their rules to the standard of the strictest member, than it is to get that strictest member to relax their rules when the latter's politicians risk being condemned for "reducing standards".

Seems we are surfing the same wave, Weaver.
Btw.: I've seen every Werner-film in cinema and in my own library you can find ALL of the Werner-comics.
Werner is a great hero of a looot of people there... so you see, we like anarchy a bit!  ;)

You're right by saying "...beurocrats, who justify their existence by making more rules not less rules..."!
But this is cowardice!
Braveness will be to dust-off the jungle of rules.

Ooops, I must interrupt.

...will be continued (perhaps by PM)...
