Apologies if there's already a thread for Brengun, but I couldn't find it....

Don't know if this is new or not, but it just erm.. dropped in at Hannants:

Surprised that it's not a kitchen sink as the Spad could carry almost everything else

Port inner wing actually, and not on that aircraft, as seen below.
This is from Rosario Rausa's book
"Skyraider. The Douglas A-1 "Flying Dump Truck".
Published bt PSL.

I do agree Alistair, it is rather tricky working out exactly where it is hanging. The Skyraider did not have a pylon inboard of the main u/c, however it did have a pylon that could carry that weight just outboard of the u/c but still on the fixed part of the wing. Which is where I would believe that weight of bomb could be carried. That being said the photo in the book is not that clear.
More to the point I raely wonder if we (the What If brigade) could come up with stranger load outs for the Skyraider.
OK we most probably could/will.

Jim

Now you've started something Jim...........  ;)

A bathtub perhaps? Maybe FOUR toilets under one of the 4 seat Spads?  ;D

Pots and pans, cutlery, rolling pins, potato mashers etc. The notorious inedible output of that cook from the officer's mess?

Guys, as I understand it, the thing HAD to be on the port side only.  This, as that's the side furthest away - and least likely to be seen from - the carrier's island.  There was no way anyone aboard would authorize the carrying of such a "payload" so they were as clandestine as they could be.  Thus under the port side wing was their best bet for getting away with the gag.

This says it was the Starboard wing, and did attract attention from the bridge. I love the fact that they stuck tailfins and a fuse on it too!
