I've always liked the look of the Rodney and the Nelson.

Very good.

Love the Rodney ! Great job on that. The camo looks awesome.

As for 3D, I wonder how to get that fuzzy finish removed > I've tried on a few aeros and trucks

Over 25 years ago - it was the ealry to mid 1990s - I experimented a bit with 3D modelleing. Whe models I made this time - surprise, surprise, some ships - were of course very very basic compared to 3d models you find today. But at that point I wished that you had a naval game with graphics like this.

I did not use a 3D programm at that time, but those models were "hand-made" using a ruler to get the positions of the single points and then use those positions in a programm on an Atari ST which coudl make a wireframe of it. Which took several minutes. An updated version of this could even make some shaded surfaces (no colour), but don't ask how long it took.

After getting a PC, I experimented a bit with Povray and found a way to convert my 3D models to it. The resuls were sceerns like this:

Now with the 3D printer I got, the cool thing is that it can read the format I used 20 years ago, so I was able to print the destroyer model from above - and it looks not too bad at all.

So I will make a 1/700 scale model of it, enhancing it with parts from the spare part box. Of course it is not that detailed than a normal model kit, but I can now grab the virtual object, I made a long time ago  ;D

There are enough 1/700 detail sets out there that I'm sure you'll be able to come up with something to do her justice.

Unfourtunally, the 3D Printer had an issue so that I have to return it and get a new one. So lets continue with the modle in the "conventional way":

A first rough paint job for it:

Adding a few PE doors.

I browsed through the spare part box to find some smaller detail parts for it, so this will be added step by step now.

I now added the main guns, plus some 3,7 cm AA.

For both, forward and backward superstructure, decks are added besides them, this was too thin for the 3D printer to print:

More details are added to the destroyer:

Masts, boats, light aa guns etc. Starts to look like a real model now.

While the little destroyer needs a bit more work, the IJN Haguro is completed.

1/700 scale, Tamiya kit plus some PE parts:

Oh my, that has come out really well

I must admit the configuration of the 3 turrets "up front" has always fascinated me with this class of ship

Yeah, the crew of the C turret better be VERY sure they're trained away before they fire!  :o
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

Still fighting with the last bits of the ZE destroyer, and here is another 3D printed model from Shapeways.

The HTMS Ratanakosindra in 1/700, printed in "Smooth Fine Detail Plastic" as they call it. (https://www.shapeways.com/product/RPSBCQTWS/htms-ratanakosindra-1-700)

This ship was a small gunboat with 2 x 6" guns and a length of just over 50 meters. But I like the look of this little thing.

The 3D print was enhanced with several parts of the spare part box, plus the usual PE stuff. Painted in Revell Aqua Colour.
