NöNö Bärs Shipyard (Completed: HMS Rodney)
« on: June 23, 2012, 01:58:42 am »
After I have posted all the what-if ships I made in the past, the progress of my current projects will be posted here.

"Live" building progress can always be seen on my Scale Model Cam http://www.german-navy.de/webcam/scale.html (Some none what-ifs might be there as well and it could be dark there when we have night in Germany  ;D)

The first project is a Flottentorpedoboot 1939 which I had started to build several years ago. The idea: Several Flottentorpedoboote survived WW2 and were used by other navies, like to Soviet Navy. After the GDR was founded in 1949, one of those ships were given back to East-Germany and upgraded over the years.
The state I want to build with this ship is a Volksmarine 1982 ship.

I will use the following kits for it:

A Heller Flottentorpedoboot 1939 (obviously), a Mirage Tarantul I and Tarantul III, all ships in 1/400 scale.

The Flottentorpedobood will of course have a differnet armamant then the WW2 version of it.

So I will remove the original ones:

  • 10,5 cm guns - removed
  • Torpedo tubes - removed
  • 3,7cm & 2 cm AA guns - removed

Instead, the ship will get some russian build ones:

  • 2 x 1 76-mm-L/60-Guns AK-176M
  • 3-4 x 30-mm-L/54 AK-630M
  • 2 × 2 P-15M (SS-N-2 Styx)
  • 2 × 2 P-80 (SS-N-22 Sunburn)

So this ship was about the firepower of two Tarantul missle boats (not really surprising as i have two of this kits which I am using....)

The superstructure will be more or less the same as the original, but it will be equipped with modern sensors and modifications where the missiles will be located (at the former torpedo locations).

Before leaving for vacation to Norway, some last progess pics of the still unnamed Flottentorpedoboot in 1982:

The SS-N-2 and SS-N-22 launchers will be located a bit differently but I am waiting for some material to build a new deck for them.

The radardome and main mast with additional sensors. A 76mm gun on the A position.

The three 30 mm guns and a 76mm gun on the Z position.

Back from Norway (btw, really a great landscape there ) some little progress on the Flottentorpedoboot 1982:

Hull is in progress of painting and the forward superstructure is completed with radar sensors:

The hull is now painted with the typical green underwater part as it was used on GDR ships. A sonar dome is added and the deck is in place:

Super structure just put into place for testing. I like the little anchor chains of the Heller kits. The main deck is painted green as it was used on some GDR ships as well. I am currently working on the "missle deck" there the SS-N-2 and SS-N-22 will be placed.

Still have to think about a good name for it.

That green underwater hull looks so different. Didn't realise the GDR had used it - you learn something new every day

The green underwater hull was quite typical for GDR ship - and for soviet ones as well. Same for the green deck.
But it looks quite good, with the white waterline and the light gray hull. I will add some tactical numbers to the hull as well. Right now I am trying different verions of the missle deck.

Same here.

Great build so far. Almost ready to break the tiny champagne bottle.

No champaign bottle yet.... I rearranged things a bit for the superstructure and glues it to the hull now.

The new decks for the missle launchers are made and painted with the first color, they won't stay black completly.

And I think "Flottenraketenboot Karl Marx" will be a good name for it ;D
