Battle Zone train/Strikeforce HO/1:76 train set layout ideas
« on: October 14, 2010, 07:28:27 am »
Hiya,
In the loft I've found a battered Hornby Battle Zone train set. Some of the missiles are missing, but the loco; track, low loader wagons, soldiers, hummers, sandbags and stockade are still in reasonable condition.

Plan A was to take the toy and turn it into a working layout. The track is moulded onto a raised trackbed which forms an oval with a siding.
By going to car boot/jumble sales or so called antique fairs I should be able to source more track, especially the points.

Plan B was to buy the new hornby "Codename:Strikeforce R1147" which has most of the same as the Battle Zone, without the missile launchers and stockade. The weathered loco is steam rather than diesel.

Plan C now means that I can use hornby or peco track to design a layout on a 6 x 4 foot board, which my young nephews can play with and when they've gone home uncle Steven can send the fuel/supplies to the forward operating base. For the harrier strike force or down to the docks. 1/76 scale models should blend in to create a modern or 1940's  layout. With bomb craters and derelict buildings.

Interesting!!

Could you possibly have the train acting as a mobile base, with the correct scale Harrier GR.3 and RAF variant of the Sea Harrier FSR.1 operating from special rail stock (maybe some form of fold-down rail stock arrangement - something like the German SPAAG used to gain space! - if you know what I mean?)
Some of the rail stock also equipped with Rapier SAM launchers and supporting Blind Fire radar systems :o

Either way, I would love to see what you come up with - Pics

Hi,
Airfix has a few battle scenes, that I'm thinking of using. Along with their modern refueling trucks and 4 tonners. I'm moving soon so everything is on hold until feb.
