Scheuch-Schlepper FINISHED!
« on: June 06, 2012, 03:28:07 pm »
No this is not a flying machine but is closely related so I will post this here, this is the kit within a kit the Scheuch-Schlepper that comes with Academy's 1/72 scale Me 163.
The Scheuch-Schlepper was a vehicle designed and built to collect the Me 163s after they landed back at their base, this vehicle was badly needed because the Me 163B landed on a skid instead of wheels.

This model was built O.O.B. and camo was painted free-handed with Model Master enamels and my Iwata Revolution BR airbrush. I tried to add some weathering to this model with some scrapes to the paint and some light paint chipping but I had to use a very light touch because this model was so small. The bottom of this vehicle was airbrushed and dry-brushed a 'dirt' color with reference supplied by the undercarriage of my pick-up. ;)

I have plans for some 'special' pics of both the Me 163s, they will be seen sometime next week if the weather clears up...the forecast for much of this week and weekend are rain/showers.

Even that tiny machine just looks German, doesn't it? Very nice as always.

Re. the camouflage - would colours closer to that on the aircraft be more appropriate? That scheme always looked a bit "tropical" to me.
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Bravo!  Little machines like that add so much interest to the hobby and to a scene. You did it well.

Thanks pyro-maniac and Go4fun!

pyro-maniac,
Many of the ground support vehicles used by the Luftwaffe in the last two years of the war were painted in overall dark yellow, it is unknown if the additional camouflage colors added to some of those machines were the same colors used on the panzers or were Luftwaffe colors sprayed on them. For this model I chose colors as used by the German army.
One thing that IS known, the Germans were masters at the art of camouflage!

I think that is excellent!  And lends weight to the theory that you actually live on an abandoned German airbase...

Thanks deathjester!

This thing looks more what-if than real world. The Germans may have lost the war but some of their machines win the coolest looking machines award...if there was such a thing. ;)

And a very scenic one at that!
