Nice... thanks for the tip!  I won't turn down a nicely priced Hase kit if I see it but will try to get this Heller one to actually build. I see a couple on eBay in the Thunderbirds livery. Not too terribly priced but too rich for my blood. Thus ensues another level of "the hunt." Eventually I'll snag one either cheap by itself or in the midst of a lot for REAL cheap. . .

Yep, 1969 mould.  Very early Hasegawa.

Adding another one to your list, there's a Sword kit that's more recent that might be easier to pick up, although I believe even that one's oop.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Ohh yeah, that's right!! I've seen that a few times in fact. Been waiting for one to be on auction. They're not priced bad but I'm such a cheapo that I'd rather wait around.

Found this here, a contemporary, Russian interpretation of the shark mouth theme:

US Navy, Dizzy, it says so on the side. ;)

That & the fact that riverine patrolling in Vietnam was done by the USN.

Seeing that pic brought back some memories, way back in the 60's I had a ride in a SRN6 that was similar to that. Mind you my Dad had taken me to a hovercraft show in Portsmouth UK, and they had all manners of hovercraft on show and there was even a simulated RN beach landing with armed hovercraft of all sizes.  Made quite an impression on me.

Does any manufacturer make 1/72 models of any of these (apart from the Airfix SRN1 which I had way back when)

Yes.  Hang on...

...Trumpeter do a Landing Craft Air Cushion.  JMSDF or USMC.

Not my model.

And Trumpeter do the LCAC in 1/144 as well, both of which come with rather good vinyl 'skirts'.

Also in 1/144 is the venerable Airfix SRN4, which is GINORMOUS compared to any other styrene hovercraft model, and which seem to be quite available on eBay. It's the MK 1 though, and it needs a lot of work to build a Mk 2 from it, and a VAST amount to make a Super 4! I've been doing it for many years, and the end is not in sight!  :banghead:

AFAIK no-one ever did an SRN5 or 6 on our sort of scales, but you can get them in the R/C modelling field.
Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Thanks Kit, Fred. That Trumpeter one is on the shopping list. I've got one of those 1/144 SRN4's in the stash too, been on the lookout for a SRN1 for quite a while though.
