I'll be building Revells boxing of the whiff-in-a-box Kamov Ka-58.  It's originally from Zvezda & is a concept of an advanced Kamov attack helicopter on the lines of the Comanche.  Rumour has it that Kamov were consulted on the design.  It'll be largely oob, but I might add a few detail changes.

I haven't decided on camo yet so fire away, also, the H-code in the title might change depending on whim!

Box shot:

Sprue shot, with part of it primed in grey.  I've since removed the primer from the major parts.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I have built 2 of the Zvesda ones, one was build oob weapon wise, but in a dark green sand red brown wrap round cam.
The other is done as an air superiority version, armed with 6 AAM's and painted in a splinter scheme of several shades of grey and blue.
Nice looking chopper when built. Looking forward to this build Mossie
Cheers,
Chris.

How about Venezuelan two-tone green like the Mi-35 Piraña?

Hagfish?!?!? Eeewwhhh!

So, I guess it will have slime camouflage?  ;D

Well, I'm not settled on the name, although I kind of like the creepiness of Hagfish.  The name might well change every time I make an update, fickle creature that I am.

Cockpit together, I've added a column between the seats & introduced some webbing on the back wall, but it hasn't come to well.  The problems with painting black I suppose!

Got any pics Chris?
I will have a quick look for you now, there is some close up ones but they are blurred to hell, but there should be some in a group pic.

Here you go mate,
The pics are far from brilliant but you should be able to see what is what.

Hope these will do.
Cheers,
Chris.

Camo?  Dare you try digital? :o

At one point a couple of years ago, Kamov actually listed this design on their projects page, with a link to images of a kit, built-up.  They've since redesigned the site, and the "project" is no longer there.

Cheers Chris, they're great, more than good enough to see how you went about them.  Lovely builds both!

Thanks Nev!  They give you the choice of raised detail, which I prefer slightly, or decals.  Thing is, the decals show a glass cockpit & the raised detail some old fashioned dials, so I went for the decals as being more appropriate to this build.  Sanded off the details & applied the decals.

Dare to digital???  I might just!  Somoeones been keeping a close eye on my other threads!

Never knew that, interesting stuff!  I wonder just how official it was?

Yeah, digital camouflage! How about HyperStealth's Digital Thunder? (Guy Cramer is the on who did the Slovak Mig-29's digitial camo.)

http://www.hyperstealth.com/

ps: Sorry Mossie, it's still a Hagfish to me!  ;D

That scheme in your CGI is great, although a little tight my skills!  If I go the digi route, it'll be more on the lines of the Slovak digital thunder that you mention.  Missed your earlier post, a jungle scheme is one I hadn't thought of & worth thinking about...

You know, Hagfish was one of the original names I thought of, then I wasn't sure.  So I found a crossowrd site with plenty of H-words & listed 72 in an an@l moment! :o :o :o I keep coming back to Hagfish so I might well stick with it, no promises though!

Or just plain jane black.

Mmmm, black is nice.  Black might feature heavily, although it won't be overall as there are a fair few on the net.  Lovely CGI!

One scheme I'd wondered about was metallic colours along the lines of some V-22's to give an ultramodern look, although I'll probably use this for another build.  I think digital is the way to go, although getting it to work on the sharp lines of the Ka-58 might be 'interesting.

Looking at pictures of Venezeulan Mi-35's & Mi-26's, the Halo has a three colour camo with subtle differences between the greens (the Hind/Piraña might as well but it's difficult to make out).  If I substitute a black or very dark grey in there, that might be the way to go, something roughly looking like German Lizard.  Maybe a bit too much?

A very rough repaint on my part but gives a general gist. Ignore the Polish markings.  Any other ideas are still welcome!

To be fair, the Mi-35's might well have a two tone paint job. It appears that way on most pics I've seen & you really have to squint to see a third shade & it could easily be shadow.  It's there on the Halos, but might be a slightly different scheme on the Hinds.

I could have sworn I added these pics last night.  It was late & I could quite easily have clicked the wrong button! :banghead:

One problem area on the kit is that there are some raised 'bumps' wre the guide holes for the pylons go on the underside of the stub wings.  It's underneath so you can live with it, but I wrapped some 180 grit wet & dry around a steel rule & sanded them down.

Glued & clamped.  Fit was very good, except for the tail which will be apparrent in the next pic.

The underside of the tail overlaps the top slightly.  It decided to favour the right hand side when I glued it, so I had to shift it central & pin it with a clothes peg (see the upright peg in the last pic).  This worked, but I succeeded in getting poly all over the rear.  Didn't matter too much, as I needed to sand that overlap anyway.

Cockpit sure looks good.  Did you get all the panel/rivet details to stand out like that just by sanding?  Going to go out on a limb here (this might sound truly dumb) but your helo looks just perfect "as is" on my computer screen.  Very sinister and futuristic.  You could use a 3-grit buffing sanding stick to smooth it down and seal it just the way it looks.
