The AH56 had a pusher prop at the tail.  The complex rotorhead assembly let it down but by the time it was axed, Lockheed had eliminated most of the bugs.

I thought it was supposed to be simpler than a regular helicopter rotor system.

btw, at least one pilot was killed when the rotor hit a resonant frequency, causing the blades to deflect too much and hit the cockpit.

For other Rotodyne fans, this month's 'Aeroplane Magazine', with a gorgeous BOAC VC10 on the cover, features the 'dyne in their 'Database' feature.

I haven't read it all yet, but it looks pretty good, only marred by the lack of a drawing of the Rotodyne Z which they mention at some length.

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Thanks for the heads up Kit, I'll get a copy from Smith's tomorrow.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

It's a very good issue all round, features on 70 years of Farnboough, Tim Davies' story, the first man to own a private Spitfire in the UK and the story of how the B-25s destined for the 'Hanover Street' film crossed the Atlantic.

4.60 well spent this month.

I might have to go and read that in the newsagent...

...when it gets here next month.

You could get the digital version.

Thanks Jon but i've fallen for that trick before.  They let you think that you are getting a magazine to download but they only let you look at it using their reader.

Ah, I use the Pocketmags app on my 12.7" iPad Pro so it's not an issue.

What I really like is that I can zoom in on drawings and stuff I like,
i.e. drawings in the RAF Secret Jets bookazine, and take a hi-res
screenshot.

I like to have a PDF of my very own to have and to hold.

I'm thinking of finally building my improved Rotodyne for the Whirlybirds, Flappers and Ekranoplan GB.  I have the major parts now and just have to work through some details in my head.
