While fuelling  the car in Gloucester this afternoon I heard the unmistakable 'Wop Wop Wop' sound of a Chinnook, and sure enough one of them strolled across the sky right overhead at around 500ft. Wonderful.

I seem to see them regularly making a lot of noise over Central London during my visits, I assume rapid reaction or some such?

More than likely, and they're all based at Odiham, which isn't all that far away.

Directly o'head Finedon, Northants this afternoon at around 500ft flew a Griffon engined Spitfire with guns, which means a XIV to me.

But, I can't find any reference to a single Mk XIV still flying in the UK, and the only Griffon powered ones are PR XIXs, so whose was it and where did it come from?  :-\ :o

[Later] Some lists seem not to be exhaustive, as I've now found one. That'd could be MV293 (G-SPIT) which flies out of Duxford under the Fighter Collection's umbrella.

[Even later] The thot plickens. MV293 has clipped wings and the one I saw definitely didn't. It was PRU Blue all over underneath too, and MV293 isn't......

Mid afternoon, a Skyvan trundling across the sky and disgorging parachutists over Shobdon.

Wonderfully descriptive of how a Skyvan flies, 'Trundling', perfect.

A bit like watching a Beverly flying "across" the sky.

There is a Mk.XVIII flying, serial SM845, there are some others but they're not in the UK.

I'm not sure if Beverlys flew 'across' the sky, maybe rather 'bullied' their way through it.

Another fortuitous spot, a pair of V-22's over York.  Never thought I'd see that here, but a net search shows it's a fairly common sight.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

And I've had a couple flying over my house in North Herefordshire a couple of hours ago.  Noisy blighters for their size!!

And I was surprised at how quiet they were!  They were in forward flight, that might be why.

The ones I saw were going into a hover ..... over Shobden where the Hereford Cowboys sometimes go out to play....which could account for the row.

Are you referring to the "Hereford Gun Club", by chance?   ;)

Yup, that's them.  Also known as the 1st Credenhill Wolf Cub pack cos that's the village outside Hereford where they live.  They have another playground at Pontrilas just south of the city.

Just had a pair of UH-60's pass  about 3-400yds west of here heading in a NW direction.
SWMBO and I were sitting out in the garden enjoying the sunshine, so they were between us and the sun.
I have to assume that given the geographical location, SW Scotland, they are most likely to be US Mil.
They did not appear to be inbound to Prestwick Airport.

Lots of 'coming-and-going' with RAF KC2 Voyagers this last few days. Yesterday I saw one take off early in the morning and just as I had left the airport to come home, another was on the glide slope coming in for landing. Today another taxied past the spot where I was posted, and no more than 15 minutes later, one went the other way and took off on 17L. I think it was the one that landed in the evening before.
