Yesterday and today at YYC.

Saw a Cathay Pacific 747-8F take off then a short while later, another Airbus Voyager landed yesterday and today watched a Piaggio 180 take off. Then I got to see my first A400M land, a German one too. Went and had a look at it where it was on Apron 9 and found it there with it's engines running and the Voyager being pushed-back from it's gate just behind it.

Seen over my model railway club y'day.

The Gloucestershire Police helicopter, a Eurocpter EC-145 I think, appeared overhead around lunchtime and went round and  round and round and round................ for about 35 mins! Goodness knows what they were looking for, but they took long enough about it.

As you can tell, my mobile phone doesn't really have a long focal length lens.......

Ahah, I heard a very strange sound this evening, westbound, but couldn't see the aircraft. Perhaps it was the same pair as we're not that far apart?

Yesterday I saw the RAF's Voyager take off and today I thought I was watching it return. I wrongly identified it though. What I saw was a Luftwaffe A310 ( and it taxied by quite close to see properly). I don't think it was a MRTT variant because it didn't have any refueling pods under the wings so I'm wondering what it is called.

 ;D ;D ;D

So doing a google on it, it seems to have been the only none MRTT in the German Airforce fleet (10+23). Now that's two Luftwaffe aircraft I've seen in the last two weeks. Now I wonder what they're doing here  ---- Cold Lake is all I can think of.

Don't know about that Chris. Last year another Luftwaffe A310 had to make an emergency landing here at YYC, someone told me it had to glide in the last twenty miles. I think they must be going further south because the one I saw Thursday wasn't there Friday morning so maybe just topping up the tanks. The A400M on the other hand had a refueling boom over the forward fuselage.

AFAIK that's a standard fit on A400-Ms, for sure on the RAF ones.

Out late last night (or what counts as late nowadays  ;D) and saw a bit of the Perseid Meteor shower. They had to be pointed out to me but I did see them

This morning, on the way into the cathedral at Hereford, 17( yes seventeen) jet trails .    As Paul Simon sang  "They've all gone to look for America....."   or perhaps they found it and decided to come back.  On the way home, at a crossroads, an inordinately bright orange cone about 6 feet high surmounted by a  high-vis yellow wind sock  (ugh!! clashing colours, call the fashion police)  Yes folks, it's the King's Cup air race again!  The sky was filled with small aircraft  out of Shobdon airfield, doing 4 laps of a 25 mile circuit at about 500 feet above ground and making far too much noise for a Sunday afternoon.

One trusts not less than 500' AGL. As required in Rule 5 of the rules of theair.

Rules observed in the negative by many of the military aircraft in these parts, even more so around where Rheged lives!
