Ah, that proposal undoubtedly died quickly when the augmentor wing concept proved a dud on the XFV-12A.  I think it likely that the engines would've remained roughly where the turboprops are now with a lot of ducting for that augmentor wing.

IMHO, you'd be better off installing two of those turbofans above the wing, and offset a bit from the booms to prevent impingement, as on the YC-14 or NASA's QSTOL testbed (though that one did have four engines).

No ya didn't cool.gif

Beat ya to the punch with the one I did one up for the Republic of French Louisiana about two months ago.

I've got a few ideas for MMA and AWACS types written down somewhere, just have no idea where at the moment.

Good ideas so far.

Well, I mean, I creat the name SASEM ;)
But I didn't know (or didn't remember) you did this wonderfull model!! Is there a thread about it?? What is it exactly? A A321 with Exocet missiles (I'm sorry, but I'm totally cr*p in distinguish the liners!!  <_< )??

Well, whatever: good job man!!

Nice model!!! Welcome back, Pollux! Hope you enjoyed your holidays
Thanks ;) The holidays were fantastic! The return was... well, horrible! I suffer from hepatitis, due to something I eat in Africa... But well, nothing to worry, and as you can see, it let me a lot of time for long post on the interresting thread ;)

FACE-LIFTING THE BRONCO
Rockwell International's Columbus, Ohio division is hoping to interest the Navy in an extensively modified OV-10 Bronco that would be able to perform a variety of missions from carriers or shore bases.  Equipped with a new supercritical augmentor wing, and 7200-pound thrust Avco Lycoming turbofans, replacing its Garrett AIResearch 415shp turboprops.  The Bronco would be capable of logistical support, early warning, electronic countermeasures and light attack.

Strange thing. I mean, a Bronco with bigger engine will have a short range, probably to short to be very usefull at sea... The S-3 and E-2 are probably more adapted, no??
But for the USMC, it could sounds well!! Such planes, flying from a landing ship could have enough range to escort Harriers and cover the Marines at land, don't you think??
A kind of "pocket-AWACS"!

the RN. looked at the Grumman Tracer AEW. for its projected carrier programme during the 1950's. Theres a drawing surviving of an 'Eagle' type carrier with Supermarine 571 and Tracer aboard!

Hmm i wonder how a Tracer would look in the RN. EDSG. and Sky scheme?

We can dream of a tri-service E-1C powered by american or british turboprops (instead of the radial engines). Three potential customers
- US Navy for its small Essex (along with Crusaders and Skyhawks)
- RN for its carriers
- Aeronavale for the Foch and Clemenceau.
(and probably others countries with WWII carriers)
This could be a low-cost, lighter alternative to the Hawkeye, too heavy for many carriers...
For info, a constructor name Mach2 has a kit of the E-1B available in 1/72 scale. But I'm not very sure of the quality of the kit, considering their AWFUL Trident-II!!!!
King Arthur: Can we come up and have a look?
French Soldier: Of course not. You're English types.
King Arthur: What are you then?
French Soldier: I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king?

Well regardless I would rather take my chance out there on the ocean, that to stay here and die on this poo-hole island spending the rest of my life talking to a gosh darn VOLLEYBALL.

I just remember that Dassault make its first appearance in the MP market last year.
Indeed, they propose the Falcon 900 MPA, probably to counter the ASTOR and the Embraer offers on the multiple export markets.

How about a turbine engined, strengthened Stratoliner with jet assist.  Voila!-- RetroAWACS.

I like the Shack idea too.   Vigorously redon Halifax's (Halifaxi???) would be very cool too.

Or....one could really press the envelope and put very modern, lightweight jamming gear in something like a PT-20 to worry the Russian "Fishing Trawlers".

I like the Stratoliner idea, and now that I think about it,kinda suprised the military didn't go for it.I finished an AWACS model of the IL-86 a couple days ago,I guess at one time there was talk of ordering a AEW model of it to replace the A-50.I did mine up in the Aeroflot colors most Soviet support aircraft appeared in during the Cold War.Also, anyone got any info on the Boeing 757 MPA,the P-9(propfan model of the MD-80) or the Russian Tu-204 MPA?

I believe the ASW variant of the Tu-204 was the Tu-204P.  I seem to remember that it was supposed to be able to carry some cannon pods.

Here I come with more junk about the OV-10, this time from the folks who built the thing:

Developing the OV-10: Innovation vs. The System

According to the text on page 9, the OV-10 was offered to both Canada and Spain, and both countries were interested, but spent all their procurement money buying F-5s.
